Photography Duo film’s “The Visitor” at Southeastern Railroad Museum

A photographer in the 21st century not only masters still life but knowing how to use video is a primary skill especially in photojournalism. In my first year of multimedia we learned how to composite a slide show with music, record voice overs and add video. Now as a second year photography major we have begun to learn the art of film from positions, film editing to camera angles and casting calls. The first assignment was to create a short film from a significant picture to get your idea, then come up with a non dialogue script and storyboard for your scenes. Thankfully we had a partner :) We took the liberty to put an ad on craigslist with the details of our movie and we had wonderful responses, so thank you to all who participated. Next we figured out our shooting schedules and using the Canon 5D Mark II to shoot live video. Picking our primary location for the the movie was exciting we chose Southeastern Railroad Museum in Buford, Georgia. Over all, I think my partner and I had one of the best :D Check it out!

She’s a SUPERMODEL! (High Key)

High Key studio shoot is when you even out your background lights to make your background go completely white, on a seamless white background of course. The background lights must be 2 stops brighter then your main and fill lights! I chose to do high key and I had a wonderful model named Brianna :) also wearing white clothing is definite, you want the outline of her body to be there and not fade out otherwise it’s incorrect. Add a prop or pop of color for fun effect :) The opposite of high key is low key when you make your dark background go black, don’t forget to use a boom or hair light to give a body outline so they do not fade into the background, dark clothing for this shoot is a must!

I am a member currently and they held their 2011 International Photographic Competition at my college, Gwinnett Technical College in Lawerenceville, Georgia! It was an amazing experience holding prints from all over the world and watching judges analyze and grade other professional’s work! Check out their website and for IMAGING USA held in New Orleans, Louisiana this year on January 15-17 to see beautiful work on display and an exhibition to die for!

How PROFESSIONAL can you BE?

I am in my second year as a photography major at Gwinnett Technical College in Lawerenceville, Georgia. Over my year of study I have found several books to be enlightening that I feel any new beginner or anyone interested in photography would love to read :)

Using the View Camera – Revised edition > Steve Simmons
Photography – 10th edition > Barbara London, Jim Stone, John Upton
The Professional’s Approach – 6th edition > Kenneth Kobre
Digital Photo Presents > Digital Camera and Photo, Buyers guide 2011! > Personal magazine!

Oh Feature? Where Art Thou?

Finding a feature shot is finding a needle in a haystack, it is a gold mine! You have to be in “the right place, at the right time”. A “feature” is kids, something funny, emotion or weather etc. I recommend Kenneth Kobre, The Professional’s Approach, 6th edition..for the feature chapter and the “22 ways to find a feature” at the end of the chapter.
